How do I get him to compromise?

I have been seeing a guy for just over four months now and we have moved in together, I’m noticing alot of traits coming out that I haven’t noticed before that I’m not liking. I’ve spoken to him about these and it seems like he’s got an answer for everything and is smoothing these issues over. I really like him but feel like he’s not willing to compromise or do something about these issues at all, and not willing to make an effort because that’s just the way he is. As hard as it is, should I give it some time or move on?

Firstly, you’ve only been together for 4 months and already moved in, so give it a little more time. Now in terms of compromise, one of the key aspects of any healthy relationship is the ability to listen to each other’s problems and then adjust. If you’re having trouble getting him to listen, express how his behaviour makes you feel rather than what you do and don’t want (I feel …..when this happens). This will open his eyes to the impact he’s having on you and this can create change in his actions. Also, give yourself a timeline. If things don’t change after a certain period (e.g. 12 months together), then it’s time to move on and find someone who wants to work as a team rather than needs to be the boss.
